Frequently Asked Questions

Is KensingtonPlan.org a master plan for Kensington?

No. It simply outlines a collaborative planning process that makes room for everyone, and keeps the Kensington community in the center. As small groups (pockets) of people meet and set their priorities for the neighborhood, we will all create a master plan of priorities for the neighborhood together.

Is Planning Kensington Together funded by the City of Philadelphia?

No. At the moment the planning process is receiving administrative support from Impact Services and NKCDC. It was created in collaboration with local civic associations, including East Kensington Neighbors Association, Harrowgate Civic Association, Kensington Neighborhood Association, and Somerset Neighbors for Better Living.

Is the City of Philadelphia funding the Health and Wellness Corridor Plan projects of Impact Services and NKCDC?

No. That collaborative plan by Impact Services and NKCDC—based on earlier community planning—was presented to the City of Philadelphia as evidence that a community-led planning process is already at work in Kensington. The projects in that plan are being funded by tax credits, state grants, foundation grants, and other sources.

What is the City of Philadelphia funding?

The city is one of many partners, including private foundations and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, that has signaled support for a community-led planning process in Kensington and has agreed to fund specific projects that the community has identified are important.

In January 2023, the city announced that a portion of its first Opioid Settlement Fund payout will go to Kensington parks, schools, and programs to keep people in their homes. In its announcement, the city said it will follow this community-driven planning process to determine how funds will be spent.

Kensington parks and schools will be the first to receive funding. Parks and schools support groups will figure out how to create an inclusive process to get broad community input for how the funds will be spent. Public meetings will be held to rally community members and to start planning. Neighbors who live near or are involved with those parks and schools are encouraged to attend these meetings when they are announced!

We invite everyone to be part of this planning process—keeping the Kensington community at the center
